We had been waiting for what felt like an eternity for Instagram to introduce a shopping feature. Now, after positive feedback in the US, it’s finally available in the following countries; Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and of course the United States, allowing companies to sell physical products inline with its privacy policy. So, we’ve pulled together exactly what you need to know about Instagram’s new product tagging capabilities.

Why Use It

So many people use Instagram to find inspiration, and adding the ability to easily shop the featured product via the social platform shortens the shopping funnel considerably. It’s often the case that followers see something on social with the best intentions of later visiting your online store to buy, but then don’t for whatever reason. So, the ability to shop the product right there and then can help you to seal the deal with customers.

Get Started

The quickest way to get started is by having a Facebook Store, and you can check out our handy tips for setting one up here. By pushing your inventory to Facebook, you’ll receive an Instagram notification asking you to connect your Facebook Product Catalogue to tag products on your Instagram posts. You’ll also then see a shopping on Instagram toggle within 2 weeks, which gives you the option of tagging products whilst uploading a post on Instagram. It’s super easy to do & allows customers to shop your feed  at the click of a button.

See It In Action

If you’ve not already seen what this new feature looks like in real life, here’s a great example which we’ve found. M&S’ caption lets users know that they can tap to shop, and once you tap on the image the items’ names and prices appear, which you can then tap to shop.

Stats Don’t Lie

Instagram has around 800 million active users per month, and early adopters of its new shopping feature are already seeing a 1,416% increase in sales and traffic. So, what are you waiting for?!
