Our top story this week is that Facebook is testing subscription groups. Parenting, cooking and organise my home groups will be the first to trial the optional feature. Group admins will have the chance to charge between $4.99 to $29.99 per month for access to special sub-Groups full of exclusive posts. We think Facebook Groups are invaluable, so can’t wait to see how this develops. (via TechCrunch).
YouTube is getting new creative ad tools. Due to content scandals, YouTube has been losing advertisers, so here’s their bid at winning some back. Their latest updates have the goal of testing in mind before committing to a whole campaign. So, brands and agencies will be able to target specific audiences with customised versions of the same ad, and tell stories over a series of ads beforehand. Not bad, right? (Via TechCrunch).
Facebook Launches new useful tier for non-profits. Workplace, the enterprise communications app from Facebook has always been free for non-profits and now it’s developing its service even further with its Workplace For Good tier. The aim is to further support the sector and provide them with educational means and a way to easily network with relevant people. If you’re a non-profit, this is definitely worth checking out. Instagram’s rolling out a redesigned Explore tab. Soon when you tap that magnifying glass you’ll get more than a search bar, stories and suggested media, you’ll get categories at the top of the screen to you find your favourite kind of content. The kind of update which will have you spending even longer on the platform! (via Mashable).
Facebook is tackling fake news by fact-checking photos and videos. Photos and videos have long been neglected by Facebook’s fake news moderators and that’s about to change.This will include looking out for those that have been manipulated in a way to show something that didn’t happen, or photos taken from previous tragedies being associated with a current one. Let’s hope that they also include memes as we all know how that can influence an election. (via FastCompany).
